Organizational Background
AYUUB is an indigenous local NGO. Non-profit non-partial, non- political and voluntary organization based in South West State, Lower Shabelle region with the objective of reaching the most affected grass-root communities in South and Bakool regions and lower Shebelle effectively and efficiently.
We are looking forward to establishing a team of health workers consisting of various cadres of health professionals to deliver lifesaving emergency health services to the population in need through this program with high impact on lives of the most vulnerable population groups.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The position and basic qualifications are as follows:
CERTIFIFED NURSE
The job holder will ensure the following:
To ensure that every beneficiary receives an adequate medical examination, the required routine and prescribed medication and referral for additional treatment, as appropriate and according to the protocols and assist the Health Project Manager in supporting staff supervision and follow of beneficiary, referrals.
Key Responsibilities
- To strictly follow guidelines
- To ensure that each beneficiary receives a routine medical examination
- To ensure that each beneficiary receives the routine medication
- To ensure that any beneficiary requiring further medical assistance is referred to the nearest medical center in accordance with protocols
- To record all symptoms of beneficiaries and medication given and complete the child’s card at every visit
- To keep an up to date record of all medication used and be responsible for stock management and reporting (distribution monitoring, use of non-expired drugs, stock ordering etc).
- To ensure that local customs relating to privacy are adhered to
- To handle the beneficiaries in a sensitive and reassuring manner
- To ensure that the sites are left in a clean manner
- To ensure that all equipment is in good working order and cleaned after the distribution, ready for the next distribution
- To report any problems or broken equipment to the Health Project Manager immediately
- To prepare any necessary reports as requested by the Health Project Manager
- To attend training as requested
- To attend team meetings on a regular basis
- To ensure that mothers respect basic hygiene principles
- To ensure that waste (medical and non-medical) is appropriately disposed of
- To be responsible for ensuring water availability for hands / body and clothes washing
- To respect secure storage for medication and food and proper record keeping
- To ensure caretakers receive basic health education in feeding, hygiene and health
- To supervise two nutrition workers and one Community Mobiliser in the area
- To undertake other tasks as requested by the Health Manager
Qualification and experience
- Qualified nurse/Certified nurse
- Nutrition programmer, primary health care or community health experience
- Proven capacity in management and teamwork
- Excellent communication skills and a willingness to be respectful, kind, sensitive and empathies with all beneficiaries and their careers
- Demonstrable ability to write reports
- Prepared to live and work in an uncertain security environment
- Ability and willingness to frequently travel and stay at the field
- Previous experience of work with humanitarian agencies
- Fluency in written and spoken English
Desirable
Experience of Health work and the design and implementation of programmers, including monitoring and evaluation
Child Protection
The responsibilities of the post will require the post holder to have regular contact with children or young people
